Furthermore, the group’s international standing is reflected in its membership in the ELLIS Society, currently counting two members within its ranks.Main lines of researchStructured Prediction and Green AI: Converting complex linguistic structures into efficient sequence-labeling tasks to enable deep analysis at a fraction of the traditional computational cost.LLM Probing: Investigating the divergence between human and LLM generation by analyzing incremental capabilities, internal representations, and training dynamics to decode how and when models acquire a given capability.Computational Sociolinguistics: Analyzing how language variation across cultures and digital platforms reflects social identity and influence, applied across a diverse range of computational problems.Biomedical NLP: Developing robust datasets and models for healthcare-related reasoning, with a focus on benchmarking how generative models handle the linguistic and conceptual complexity of the medical domain.Facilities, equipment & support from the group membersAs part of the University of A Coruña (UDC), the group has access to the Galicia Supercomputing Center (CESGA), which provides extensive CPU/GPU clusters and large-scale storage to support high-performance computing requirements. Locally, the project is integrated into the Research Center on Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC), a recognized center of excellence offering specialized facilities, including a shared cluster with 16 NVIDIA A100 GPUs. These regional and institutional resources are complemented by the LyS research group’s private infrastructure.The LyS group is an interdisciplinary research unit with a core NLP team currently composed of four professors, one postdoctoral researcher, and four Ph.D. students.
