IEEE Submission and Peer Review PoliciesIEEE Clarifies Guidelines on the Responsible Use of AI in Scholarly Publishinghttps://journals.ieeeauthorcenter.ieee.org/become-an-ieee-journal-author/publishing-ethics/guidelines-and-policies/submission-and-peer-review-policies/#ai-generated-contentIEEE has reaffirmed its commitment to research integrity and transparency by issuing clear guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the preparation and submission of scholarly manuscripts. These policies ensure that innovation in AI-assisted research and writing is balanced with ethical responsibility and the preservation of trust in the peer-review process.Under IEEE’s submission and peer-review policies, authors are permitted to use AI-generated content—including text, figures, images, and code—provided that such use is explicitly and transparently disclosed. Authors must identify the AI tools used, specify the sections of the manuscript affected, and describe the nature of the AI contribution in the Acknowledgments section. Importantly, AI systems cannot be listed as authors, and full accountability for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the work remains solely with the human authors.IEEE emphasizes that AI tools may assist researchers, but they do not replace scholarly judgment or ethical responsibility. Authors are expected to carefully review all AI-generated material to ensure correctness, proper attribution, and compliance with publication standards. The undisclosed or misleading use of AI-generated content may be treated as a breach of publishing ethics. In parallel, IEEE maintains strict confidentiality standards in the peer-review process. Reviewers are prohibited from using public AI tools to analyze submitted manuscripts, as doing so could compromise confidential content. Through these policies, IEEE aims to support responsible innovation while safeguarding the credibility, transparency, and integrity of the global scholarly record.Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Generated TextUse by Authors“ The use of content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) in an article (including but not limited to text, figures, images, and code) shall be disclosed in the acknowledgments section of any article submitted to an IEEE publication. The AI system used shall be identified, and specific sections of the article that use AI-generated content shall be identified and accompanied by a brief explanation regarding the level at which the AI system was used to generate the content. The use of AI systems for editing and grammar enhancement is common practice and, as such, is generally outside the intent of the above policy. In this case, disclosure as noted above is not required, but recommended. "

These include the Impact Factor (IF), SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), and other bibliometric indicators.Key Metrics and RankingsImpact Factor (IF)The Impact Factor is a measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to recent articles published in a journal. For example, in the field of 'Nutrition and Dietetics', journals with an IF ≥ 6.0 were analyzed, showing significant citation counts and impact 1.SCImago Journal Rank (SJR)SJR ranks journals into four quartiles (Q1–Q4) based on their impact and quality. Journals in the top quartile (Q1) are considered to be of the highest quality. For instance, the SCImago Journal Rank database is used to evaluate journal prestige in various fields, such as environmental engineering and orthopedics 2 3 4.Journal Article Influence Index (JAII)The JAII is another metric used to evaluate the influence of academic journals. For example, the 2022 JAII was used to rank core journals in orthopedics and gastroenterology, highlighting the highest and lowest influence scores 5 6.Examples of High-Impact JournalsPreventing Chronic Disease (PCD)PCD saw a significant increase in its impact factor, reaching 4.354, and was ranked in the top 10% of more than 27,000 journals evaluated by Scimago in 2021 7.Top Intensive Care JournalsA bibliometric analysis of the top 10 intensive care journals with the highest 2022 Impact Factors showed a strong representation of high-impact research from high-income countries 8.Critical Care Nursing JournalsThe top critical care nursing journals, such as Intensive and Critical Care Nursing (ICCN) and Nursing in Critical Care (NICC), were analyzed for their top-cited papers, indicating significant contributions to the field 9.Trends and ObservationsGeographic and Publisher InfluenceWestern countries and private publishers dominate the top-tier journals in many fields. For example, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Netherlands house a significant proportion of top journals in environmental engineering 3.Gender DisparitiesDespite improvements, gender disparities in authorship persist in top medical research journals, with women underrepresented as first and senior authors 10.Open Access vs. Subscription ModelsOpen access articles tend to receive more citations compared to subscription-based articles, as seen in critical care nursing journals 9.ConclusionTo be considered in the top 1% of journals in 2025, a journal would likely need to have a high Impact Factor, be ranked in the top quartile (Q1) by SCImago, and demonstrate significant influence through metrics like the JAII. Journals such as PCD, top intensive care journals, and critical care nursing journals exemplify the characteristics of high-impact publications. Additionally, trends such as geographic dominance, gender disparities, and the impact of open access publishing are important factors influencing journal rankings and impact.

Study measures the psychological toll of wildfires
General NEWS

Research in Southeast Asia quantifies how much wildfire smoke hurts peoples’ moods; finds the effect is greater when fires originate in other countries.Peter Dizikes | MIT NewsPublication Date: February 13, 2024Wildfires in Southeast Asia significantly affect peoples’ moods, especially if the fires originate outside a person’s own country, according to a new study. The study, which measures sentiment by analyzing large amounts of social media data, helps show the psychological toll of wildfires that result in substantial air pollution, at a time when such fires are becoming a high-profile marker of climate change. “It has a substantial negative impact on people’s subjective well-being,” says Siqi Zheng, an MIT professor and co-author of a new paper detailing the results. “This is a big effect.”The magnitude of the effect is about the same as another shift uncovered through large-scale studies of sentiment expressed online: When the weekend ends and the work week starts, people’s online postings reflect a sharp drop in mood. The new study finds that daily exposure to typical wildfire smoke levels in the region produces an equivalently large change in sentiment.“People feel anxious or sad when they have to go to work on Monday, and what we find with the fires is that this is, in fact, comparable to a Sunday-to-Monday sentiment drop,” says co-author Rui Du, a former MIT postdoct who is now an economist at Oklahoma State University.Read more at https://news.mit.edu/2024/study-measures-psychological-toll-wildfires-0213

Asian Economic PapersLink: https://aep.jci.edu.my/aboutAsian Economic Papers is sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Development, Columbia University, United States; the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, South Korea; the Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia, Sunway University, Malaysia; the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, Indonesia; and Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. AEP’s articles focus on rigorous, objective analysis of key economic issues of a particular Asian economy or of the broader Asian region, and offer creative solutions to these Asian economic issues.AEP selects articles from open submissions and solicits articles from the top experts in the fields that are of high contemporary interest. Authors present their analyses at the Asian Economic Panel, which convenes thrice yearly in different parts of the world. The panel, which held its first meeting in April of 2001, invites about forty leading economists from all over the world to each meeting to discuss the subjects of that particular meeting. The discussion of each topic begins with the presentation of an analytical paper.AEP makes its publication decisions after reviewing the revised papers. The proceedings of the AEP conference are edited and published thrice yearly in a journal, Asian Economic Papers (MIT Press).Editor-in-Chief: Wing Thye WooEditors: Sungbae An, Fukunari Kimura, Ming Lu, and Jeffrey D. August 2024 data-update for "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators"Published: 16 September 2024|Version 7 |DOI: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.7Contributor: John P.A. IoannidisLink: https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/7Citation metrics are widely used and misused. We have created a publicly available database of top-cited scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator (c-score). Separate data are shown for career-long and, separately, for single recent year impact. Metrics with and without self-citations and ratio of citations to citing papers are given and data on retracted papers (based on Retraction Watch database) as well as citations to/from retracted papers have been added in the most recent iteration. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields according to the standard Science-Metrix classification. Field- and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists with at least 5 papers. Career-long data are updated to end-of-2023 and single recent year data pertain to citations received during calendar year 2023. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field. This version (7) is based on the August 1, 2024 snapshot from Scopus, updated to end of citation year 2023. This work uses Scopus data. Calculations were performed using all Scopus author profiles as of August 1, 2024. If an author is not on the list it is simply because the composite indicator value was not high enough to appear on the list. It does not mean that the author does not do good work. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THE DATABASE HAS BEEN PUBLISHED IN AN ARCHIVAL FORM AND WILL NOT BE CHANGED. The published version reflects Scopus author profiles at the time of calculation. We thus advise authors to ensure that their Scopus profiles are accurate. REQUESTS FOR CORRECIONS OF THE SCOPUS DATA (INCLUDING CORRECTIONS IN AFFILIATIONS) SHOULD NOT BE SENT TO US. They should be sent directly to Scopus, preferably by use of the Scopus to ORCID feedback wizard (https://orcid.scopusfeedback.com/) so that the correct data can be used in any future annual updates of the citation indicator databases. The c-score focuses on impact (citations) rather than productivity (number of publications) and it also incorporates information on co-authorship and author positions (single, first, last author). If you have additional questions, see attached file on FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. Finally, we alert users that all citation metrics have limitations and their use should be tempered and judicious.
